What is Spyware?

Harry Elver, The Computer Guy™, explains the havoc Spyware and Malware can cause you and what you can do to prevent and repair problems at our May meeting! His site, http://www.azcompguy.com, has a lot of helpful information.
The Steve Gibson (authority in the field) answer - http://www.spyware.co.uk/whatis.shtml
“ Spyware is ANY SOFTWARE which employs a user's Internet connection in the background (the so-called "backchannel") without their knowledge or explicit permission. ”
I also asked Google that question and the great oracle replied with numerous definitions with links to where they were obtained - http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&oi=defmore&q=define:Spyware.
Follow this link for an excellent article on the subject written April 22, 2004 by by CBSNews.com's Dick Meyer.

I use SpywareBlaster to block spyware from finding a home on my hard drive. I also run both Spybot and Ad-aware every few days or whenever my system becomes sluggish. I update all three tools OFTEN, when I update my virus definition files (I use AVG).
Javacool's SpywareBlaster prevents spyware from ever being installed. There is a PayPal link for donations if you like the product and are able to do so.
